چکیده

CUORE is a cryogenic-bolometer detector consisting of 988 TeO 2 crystals, 750 g each, operated at a temperature of ∼8 mK, currently under construction in the underground Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso. Its goal is to search for neutrinoless double beta decays with a sensitivity to the effective neutrino mass as low as a few tens of meV. CUORICINO, its pilot experiment, has proven the feasibilty of CUORE setting moreover the current lower limit on the lifetime of 130 Te against neutrinoless double beta decay: we report on the up-to-date CUORICINO results and discuss the prospects for CUORE.

Cryogenic Double Beta Decay Experiments: CUORE and CUORICINO

Cryogenic bolometers, with their excellent energy resolution, flexibility in material, and availability in high purity, are excellent detectors for the search for neutrinoless double beta decay. Kilogram-size single crystals of TeO2 are utilized in CUORICINO for an array with a total detector mass of 40.7 kg. CUORICINO currently sets the most stringent limit on the halflife of Te of T 1/2 ≥ 2.4...

Potential and Prospects for CUORE and CUORICINO experiments

The CUORE (Cryogenic Underground Observatory for Rare Events) experiment projects to construct and operate an array of 1000 cryogenic thermal detectors of a mass of 760 g each to investigate rare events physics, in particular, double beta decay and non baryonic particle dark matter. A first step towards CUORE is CUORICINO, an array of 56 of such bolometers, currently being installed in the Gran...

The CUORICINO and CUORE double beta decay experiments

After an introduction on the various experimental techniques to be adopted in searches for double beta decay, the new approach based on the use of cryogenic low temperature detectors is described. The present results are reported on the limit for neutrinoless double beta decay of 130Te obtained with the large bolometric detector CUORICINO. This setup consists of 44 cubic crystals of natural TeO...

Double beta decay experiments

The present status of double beta decay experiments are reviewed. The results of the most sensitive experiments, NEMO-3 and CUORICINO, are discussed. Proposals for future double beta decay experiments are considered. In these experiments sensitivity for the effective neutrino mass will be on the level of (0.1-0.01) eV.
